Physical Education (PE)
Our PE leader is Miss Edwards-King
The goal of our PE curriculum is to promote health, well-being and an active lifestyle amongst our students. Across all year groups, pupils have the opportunity to take part in dance and gymnastics lessons, as well as games (such as football, rugby, netball, hockey and tennis) and outdoor & adventurous activities. This year, we are delighted that all children in Upper School will continue to benefit from a half-term worth of swimming lessons at Sawston Village College's pool. They are fortunate enough to benefit from having two swimming teachers at the pool, enabling all children to be in the pool for a full hour each week!
In PE, our children participate in a range of activities which enable them to make progress in their sporting abilities as they move up through school. Not only do we teach them the key skills needed for each sport they take part in, they learn the importance of showing good sportsmanship and teamwork. We also promote the use of self-reflection and evaluation to help improve performance, making the best use of our indoor and outdoor learning environments.
We have made the decision to create our own PE scheme. The children are taught units from this scheme over a two-year cycle. More information about this can be found in the 'Subject Progression' tab.

At Fulbourn Primary School, we are dedicated to ensuring that every PE lesson challenges children in multiple ways—physically, socially, emotionally, and cognitively. Our curriculum follows a spiral approach, where key skills and concepts are revisited and built upon over time. Each session is designed to develop essential physical abilities while also incorporating at least two key social, emotional, and cognitive focus areas. This structured progression allows children to deepen their understanding, refine their techniques, and gain confidence as they revisit and expand upon previously learned skills.
We also prioritise supporting children to enjoy physical activity to set them up for an active life well beyond their time at our school. Through a diverse range of units, they have ample opportunities to demonstrate their growth, fostering a well-rounded approach to personal and physical development.
