Alongside being active, it is important that children are able to discuss their learning in PE using subject-specific vocabulary. This is especially useful when thinking about reflecting on or evaluating an activity.

Below, you will find a vocabulary guide for the PE taught at Fulbourn, showing the progression from EYFS to Upper School in dance, gymnastics and games. Also included is the vocabulary linked with swimming, which only our KS2 children take part in.

Time is scheduled into every PE lesson to discuss vocabulary, and children are encouraged to use it throughout their learning, including in a reflection at the end of the lesson. Through the use of dual coding, children are introduced to new words (and retrieve prior learnt vocabulary) in every lesson.
